Abyssal Lapidary Demo

The Abyssal Lapidary demo is a free, standalone Steam release and the only way to play the game today. It launched on October 16, 2026 as part of Steam Next Fest, and it is far more substantial than most festival demos.

Where to Get It

Search Steam for Abyssal Lapidary Demo rather than the base game. The demo is a separate listing with its own app ID, so the main store page has no install button — that is why players who wishlisted the game sometimes cannot find a way to play. Installation is the usual Steam flow: click Install on the demo page, wait for roughly 10 GB, launch. There is no key, no sign-up, no Discord gate and no time limit inside the demo itself.

Faceting tableYesCut shapes and styles; quality affects value.
Jewelry benchYes, laterOpens as your licence climbs.
Display cabinetsYesAdd allure to the workshop.
Workshop upgrades, calendar, logYesAdded for the public demo.
Talent tree, licence tiers, perceptionYes, rebuiltReworked between playtest and demo.
Polishing wheelNoAbsent from the demo build.
Controller supportNoPlanned for launch or shortly after.
Known limitation

The missing polishing wheel matters more than it sounds: several minerals sit at hardness and toughness 1, and the tools in the demo cannot clean them without damage. That is a build limitation, not a skill issue.

Demo vs. the Earlier Playtest

The public demo is not the playtest with a new name. Between the two, the developers rebuilt the talent tree, the licence advancement system and the perception system; reworked existing tools and added new ones, including a head-mounted loupe, explosives and a wire saw; added display cabinets, workshop upgrades, a calendar and a business log; and cut CPU and GPU load. Playtest saves do not load in the demo.

Patch Notes So Far

What to Try First

Buy two or three stones rather than ten, inspect each one with the loupe before paying, and read a commission's requirements before accepting it. The three walls new players hit are damaged gems, failed commission requirements and the allure gate — all three are covered in the beginner guide.

The developers have not announced a removal date for the demo, and they are still running a jewellery showcase event with an entry deadline of November 3, 2026 — so there is time to learn the trade at your own pace.
