Abyssal Lapidary Guide & Tips

Everything on this page is grounded in the free demo — about a quarter of the full game. It is a beginner framework for the loop, not a full walkthrough: deeper guides will expand here after the full release ships.

What Is the Core Loop?

Abyssal Lapidary is a gothic management sim built around one repeating trade: appraise raw ore → extract and cut gemstones → craft jewelry → manage the shop → uncover what lies beneath the workshop. Each mineral has distinct properties that affect the crafting process, so the real skill is adapting your method to the stone in front of you — not repeating a single recipe.

Progress is gated by the licence system. Better licences open more of the workshop — the faceting table unlocks with a Silver License, and the jewelry bench opens as your licence climbs — so early decisions about money and commissions echo through the whole run.

Step 1: Appraise Before You Buy

The ore merchant is where runs are won or wasted. Evaluate rough stones before committing your workshop resources: inspect each stone with the loupe, check its mineral properties, and compare potential value against the asking price. Since patch v0.2.15, ores also show an Attraction stat, and the magnifying glass output is sharper — read what the tools tell you before paying.

Beginner tip

Buy two or three stones rather than ten. A small, well-inspected batch teaches the appraisal loop without risking the shop's money on stones you cannot yet read.

Step 2: Extract and Cut Without Ruining the Stone

Extraction tools in the demo include the hammer, chisel, gouge, shovel, saws, drill and acid, and the current patch adds tool suitability and efficiency hints — use them. The most common beginner failure is damaged gems: several minerals sit at hardness and toughness 1, and the demo's tools cannot clean them without damage because the polishing wheel is absent from this build. When a gem keeps chipping, it is usually the build's limit, not your technique.

At the faceting table, cutting precision, gemstone characteristics and final value are directly linked. Expanded faceting estimates and cut filters (v0.2.15) show more of the outcome before you commit a cut — check them first.

Step 3: Craft Jewelry That Matches the Commission

Once your licence is high enough, the jewelry bench turns cut gems into sellable work. Read a commission's requirements before accepting it — failed requirements are the second wall new players hit. Newer builds help: ring bands are adjustable, designs can be saved and loaded, and commissions no longer ask for balanced or unbalanced jewellery.

Step 4: Run Vermilion House

The shop layer ties everything together. Display cabinets add allure to the workshop, workshop upgrades, the calendar and the business log track the business day to day, and the talent tree — rebuilt for the demo — lets you specialise. The third beginner wall is the allure gate: if progression stalls, your showroom presentation is usually the reason.

Step 5: Follow the Mystery

Underneath the trade sim, strange minerals and the workshop's past pull the story forward. The perception system — also rebuilt for the demo — governs how much of it you notice. Restore the workshop, and the secrets beneath it start surfacing on their own. We keep this section spoiler-light on purpose.

What Comes Next

This hub will grow into full, dedicated guides — ore lists, tool tables, licence routes and commission references — once the full game releases and its final numbers are confirmed. Until then, demo numbers can shift between patches, so treat any very specific stat elsewhere with caution.
